At Checkmate Community, our mission is to empower children who have been impacted by the incarceration of family members by teaching them how to become young entrepreneurs. We believe in breaking the chain of the past and creating a better future, and this drives everything we do. This year, we hosted our annual Back-to-School Bash, and we’re excited to share that it was our most successful event yet! We were able to serve over 350 children, providing them with everything from school supplies to essential services, all thanks to the amazing support from our partners and community members like you.

Our event was packed with activities and services designed to set our children up for success. We offered free physicals courtesy of JPS, ensuring our kids are healthy and ready for the new school year. Walmart partnered with us to provide free eye exams, helping children see clearly and excel in their studies. We also had talented professionals offering free hair braiding and haircuts, giving our kids the confidence they need to walk into their classrooms with pride. Stand Up Wireless was also there, generously giving away free phones to the community, further enhancing the support provided to families.

The fun didn’t stop there! Our event featured an exciting gaming truck, bounce houses, and a live DJ, creating a festive atmosphere that was enjoyed by all. With over 15 vendors offering a wide range of products and services, there was something for everyone. It was a day filled with joy, community spirit, and a shared commitment to our children’s futures.

We are especially proud of our partnership with the City of Fort Worth, which has been a key collaborator both this year and last year. Their support has been instrumental in helping us reach more children and families, and we look forward to continuing this partnership in the years to come. A big shout-out to Tandranike Johnson, the community event planner at Chisholm Trail Community Center. By teaming up with you, we are on our way to achieving great things. Last year, in 2023, we hosted the Back-to-School Bashes and were able to serve 175 children. With your continued support and the dedication of our growing list of partners, we’ve more than doubled our impact this year. We are already looking ahead to next year, with plans to make our event even bigger and better. Our goal is to reach even more children and families, providing them with the resources they need to thrive and to inspire them to build a brighter future through entrepreneurship.
